DRAPER, Utah, Aug. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — New research from TruHearing reveals positive progress in the availability of hearing benefits—but not nearly enough to meet the growing need.
According to TruHearing’s 5th annual Hearing Loss in the Workplace Survey, 13% of U.S. employees say their employer offers hearing benefits, which remains far below what the workforce is asking for.
A definitive 93% of employees agree it is important for employers to offer hearing benefits. Even among those with healthy hearing, there is widespread agreement (91%) that hearing benefits belong in employer benefit packages.
Almost half of U.S. employees (40%) now report experiencing at least some degree of hearing difficulty, underscoring a widening gap between those who need and want hearing support, and those who have access to it. In fact, having hearing coverage is the number one motivator for employees to consider getting hearing aids sooner1, reinforcing the critical role employers play in driving proactive hearing health.
“We’re encouraged by the growing inclusion of hearing benefits, but there’s still a long way to go to meet the real needs and expectations of today’s U.S. workforce,” said Trent Sterling, CEO at TruHearing. “Our research shows that employees aren’t just passively hoping for better support—they’re counting on it.”
Beyond rising demand, the absence of hearing benefits poses a significant risk to workplace productivity—87% of employees report that hearing loss would impact their ability to do their job in some capacity. And the broader implications are costly: lost productivity costs employers an estimated $1.8 trillion each year2.
“That should be a wake-up call for employers,” added Sterling. “Today’s workforce expects benefits that match their needs, and many companies are falling behind. Hearing benefits are no longer a nice-to-have; they’re essential to ensuring employees can thrive.”
